TraumaStation
Knowledge Base → TTraumaStation is a portable medical device developed by MedCom GmbH and Fraunhofer IGD, which covers the mobility of the doctors as well as integrates the diversity of Telemedicine. Traumastation demonstrates how several different medical devices can be integrated on one single case and support a wide variety of applications utilising thereby one single data transportation protocol. The medical TraumaStation is a light portable tele-medical first-aid device, which provides the physicians with an ultrasound, electrocardiogram, blood pressure, oxygen meter apparatus all in a suitcase.
The newest updated version is TraumaStation II. It is an active diagnostic, portable 3D ultrasound imaging device for medical professionals, which is able to acquire, process, display and transfer two- and three-dimensional medical images in a telemedical environment. The software running on the medical trauma station is called TeleConsult® and enables online and offline medical assessments and discussions based on acquired and transmitted medical images and vital parameters such as blood pressure, electrocardiogram and oxygen saturation. In the offline mode the user defines a message that may include text and image data and selects the destination. In the online mode two TraumaStation devices / TeleConsult clients are connected and share the same view on the image data enabling the live discussion of a certain case. For data security TraumaStation II / TeleConsult uses validated encryption and authenticity mechanisms.
The image display part is capable of loading two- and three-dimensional DICOM 3 images and volume files. The software provides certain image display and rendering routines as well as measurement and annotation tools.
The device is ready for field deployment in a military context.
The origianl TraumaStation medical device has been adapated by Tradition Group Ltd. to the Russian market in a joint project with MedCom GmbH.
Presently the two companies have teamed up to develop TraumaStation III.
The upgraded portable device will deliver two innovative applications:
- Auto-detection of traumas. This application can cover a variety of cases like military traumas or civilian traumas.
- Auto-segment bation of babies in 3D U/S images. This application can be deployed in rural areas where there is a lack of specialists. It could help to obtain a second opinion from an expert by avoiding the patient to travel many kilometres.
Other key features will include multiple communication options to contact the appropriate personnel: LAN 10/100/1000, WLAN, Bluetooth, Modem 3G / 4G, Satellite connection.
